This paper presents two areas located in the western region of the state of Bahia, with the occurrence of black limestone featuring recrystallized white calcite. These two areas cover approximately 6,000 km2 and is located near good road infrastructure, situated within 90 km of the alignment of the West-East Integration Railway. The rock, which holds potential for ornamental use, is associated with the Lagoa do Jacaré Formation, predominantly composed of calcirudites and calcarenites, as well as the Sete Lagoas Formation, consisting of shales, mudstones, and limestones. Both formations exhibit the potential for the occurrence of black limestone with white (translucent) sections, linked to the presence of white calcite and occasionally fluorite.
