This research uses Analysis of Principal Components (ACP) to synthetize information about Low Density Geochemistry stream sediments survey of the South and Extreme-South regions of Santa Catarina State, where it`s inserted a coal mining region. The sampling work includes 74 samples from bottom sediments, with a density sample of nearly 1/150 km2 and <80 mesh size for analysis. The sediments were submitted to extraction by HNO3/HCl (3:1) and analyzed by ICP for 53 elements. After data normalization and correlation study, the results of 47 parameters with relevance for ACP analysis were selected. Three principal components explained 72.7% of total variance. The first and second components reflected the lithotypes of acid rocks in the North area and basic rocks in the South area. The third component portrays the anthropic influence of coal mining, resulting in the acid mine drainage, that leaches the natural elements and retains the toxic elements in the affected areas.
